Madam C.J. Walker (Sarah Breedlove) was born in Louisiana, USA, in 1867. In 1874, her parents died, and she went to work in cotton fields. She married Moses McWilliam in 1881. In 1885, her only daughter Lelia was born. In 1887, her husband died, and she got a job washing clothes. In the 1890s, she lost some of her hair. In 1905, she developed new hair care products and changed her name to Madam C.J. Walker. In 1908, she opened a training college in Pittsburgh. In 1910, she built a factory in Indianapolis. In 1916, she gave money to help African-Americans. She died in New York State in 1919 and was the richest African-American woman.
