We can learn a lot about Russian peasants’ children of the 19th century from the poems by the Great Russian poet N. A. Nekrasov. Their life wasn’t easy at all. Children got up very early and helped their parents in their hard work: they fed animals, worked in the fields, gathered mushrooms and picked up berries in the forest. The Great Russian writer I. S.Turgenev also wrote about children’s hobbies, favourite games and activities in their free time. He brightly described how children liked to sit near the fire in the evening after their work, telling each other scary stories about ghosts and brownies.
