When I think about Russia, the first three things that come to my mind are Russian dishes called borsch, blini or pancakes and Russian dolls called Matryoshkas. Many tourists who come to Russia know about these dishes and most of the foreign tourists are interested in trying them. Blini is a traditional Russian dish on the holiday called Maslenitsa. This holidays usually celebrates on the last week of winter. Blini, which are pancakes in English, mean the Sun, because they have a round form and a yellow colour. Borsch is a traditional Russian soup, it consists of meat, potatoes, carrots, cabbage and beet, the last ingredient gives red colour to this soup. People usually eat borsch with sour cream. Russia is cold, and if you’re frozen - no better time for a plate of hot, creamy Russian soup! They say that spoon must stand in good borsch, meaning it must be very-very thick. The thicker - the merrier, as Russian men always needed lots of calories to go on with their daily duties. Matryoshka dolls are Russian wooden dolls of decreasing size placed one inside another. The name Matryoshka, literally ‘little matron’, is a diminutive form of Russian female first name ‘Matryona’ or ‘Matryosha’. These dolls are great souvenirs every foreign tourist wants to buy.
