She felt lonely and in the evenings read romance novels, which she had loved since the age of 14. Every evening she looked out of the window, waiting for somebody to come, but nothing happened. One day, a handsome man, Dudley Hall, appeared and Isobel helped him. When his business was finished, Dudley asked Isobel to go for a meal the following evening. The next day Dudley telephoned and said he would not come because he was going to have a meeting. That evening Isobel decided to go to a bar by herself.
